Abu Dhabi Cultural District: Bomanite Imprint for Public Open Space

The cultural district expansion on Saadiyat Island hosts dozens of international cultural institutions. Public space surfaces are where museum visitors, artists, and daily users walk, sit, and pause for hours — making both visual quality and physical comfort critical.

The design team wanted a floor that reflected the Arabic geometric motifs of the surrounding architecture. Bomanite Imprint Systems' customisable stamp catalogue met this requirement precisely. White and sand-beige integral colouring provides maximum solar reflectance in the Middle Eastern sun while traditional textures are reinterpreted within a contemporary context.

The 6,100 m² surface is under performance observation in both summer and winter conditions. Working alongside canopy and shade structures, the light-toned concrete surface measured an average of 11°C cooler than the surrounding asphalt control.
