Concrete in LEED & BREEAM Certifications: A Guide for Architects and Developers
5 March 2026
When a project targets LEED v4 or BREEAM Outstanding, the choice of floor system is no longer purely aesthetic. Each system can directly contribute to — or undermine — specific credit categories.
Rainwater Management (SS: Sustainable Sites)
Bomanite Pervious Concrete and Grasscrete systems meet the surface runoff reduction requirement. Under LEED SS Credit 4, permeable surfaces covering more than 50% of the developed site area earn full credit — up to 3 credits in LEED v4 total.
Heat Island Reduction (SS: Heat Island)
Light-toned integral-coloured Bomanite surfaces consistently meet the SRI (Solar Reflectance Index) requirement of ≥29. Compared to dark asphalt, surface temperatures are 6–12°C lower.
Low-Emitting Materials (EQ: Indoor Environmental Quality)
Bomanite sealers and hardeners are produced in low-VOC formulations, meeting LEED EQ Credit 2 conditions. Solvent vapour release during application is minimal.
The conclusion: regardless of which green building certification your project targets, the floor system should be evaluated across these three dimensions. Bomanite Türkiye can provide coordinated technical documentation for your certification consultant.
