This mixed-use residential complex developed under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 urban transformation programme faced a serious concrete performance challenge across four towers and 4,600 m² of amenity-level external surfaces: pool decks and walkways that would remain open to barefoot access for hours in Riyadh's summer temperatures exceeding 45°C.
Bomanite Exposed Aggregate's solution operated on two levels. First, the natural colour of basalt aggregate reflects solar radiation and keeps surface temperatures in check. Second, the rough aggregate texture revealed by the washing process delivers excellent non-slip performance in wet conditions — critical for poolside safety.
The project has now completed three summers since handover. Surface temperature measurements consistently meet the projections: a 9°C reduction in midday peak temperatures compared to the asphalt control surface.
